Weldin Stewart Wins Primary for Delaware Insurance Post
Karen Weldin Stewart surprised many political observers by winning the Democratic primary for the post of Delaware insurance commissioner.
The former state insurance department deputy receiver beat Gene Reed Jr., the candidate backed by the Democratic Party establishment. She received 42.5 percent of the vote compared to Reed’s 39.3 percent. Health insurance activist Tom Savage garnered 18.2 percent.
Weldin Stewart will now face Republican John Brady in November.
The winner of the November election will succeed Democratic incumbent Matt Denn, who is running for lieutenant governor.
