Del. Insurance Chief Denn in Line for Lt. Gov. Nomination

Wilmington (Delaware) City Council President Ted Blunt has suspended his campaign for lieutenant governor.

Blunt issued a statement saying it was important for the Democratic Party to unite.

The move clears the way for Insurance Commissioner Matt Denn to become the Democratic nominee.

Blunt says he raised almost $200,000, but it wasn’t enough. He says mounting a statewide campaign “requires unprecedented resources.”

Blunt says he’ll serve out his term as City Council president but has no plans to seek elective office in the future.

In the race for governor, State treasurer Jack Markell and Lieutenant Governor John Carney are seeking the Democratic nomination. Retired judge Bill Lee is the likely Republican nominee.
