Massachusetts Health Inspectors Order Indoor Water Park Closed

Massachusetts health officials have shut down an indoor water park after reports that several children were injured by high levels of chlorine.

The CoCo Key Water Resort opened last May at the Sheraton Ferncroft Hotel in Middleton. The 65,000-square foot park circulates 190,000 gallons of water.

State officials said levels of a chlorine byproduct were found to be well above state standards. Inspectors also cited the park for lacking adequate chlorine testing equipment and thermometers to gauge the temperature of the hot tub.

Several parents reported last month that their children had burns or rashes after visiting the park.

A CoCo Key official said in a statement that the company is working with state and local officials to resolve the problems.
