Workers Comp Fraud Sweep Nets 8 in N.Y.
The New York State Insurance Fund said a fraud sweep in Nassau County resulted in the arrests of eight people who allegedly took a combined $938,000 in fraudulent workers compensation benefits.
The arrests came after a year-long investigation, said Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice.
Six people were taken into custody — and arrest warrants were issued for two more – for felony charges ranging from grand larceny and insurance fraud to falsifying business records, perjury and violation of the workers compensation law.
The NYSIF said the estimated savings that would result from the investigations, combined with the actual fraud alleged to have been committed total almost $1.5 million.
