Mass. Escapes Worst of Beryl
The National Hurricane Center discontinued its tropical storm warning for southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod early this morning as Tropical Storm Beryl weakened and moved north toward Nova Scotia.
The storm passed through the area with average winds of under 50 mph, not the fierce winds that had forecasters worried.
Also, rainfall did not approach the 1 to 3 inches that had been forecast as possible.
Above normal tides in Massachusetts are expected to diminish as the day goes on.
No serious folding or damage was reported.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day as far north as Maine.
