Man Wanted for Mass. Auto Fraud Captured in Dominican Republic
Two brothers from Lawrence, Mass. who are both on the state’s most wanted fugitives list were captured lays Friday in the Dominican Republic, state police said.
Andres Maldonado, 21, is the alleged trigger man in a fatal drive-by shooting in Lawrence in August 2003, according to state police, and is wanted on a murder warrant.
Jacinto Maldonado Jr., 24, is wanted for allegedly setting up, and then driving a car that was involved in, a staged accident in an effort to defraud insurance companies.
Maldonado’s grandmother, Altagracia Arias, 65, died from head injuries suffered in the Sept. 4, 2003, accident, which spurred a crackdown on auto insurance fraud in the state.
He is charged with manslaughter, and also is wanted for alleged firearms violations.
The brothers were arrested by local law enforcement authorities at about 5:15 p.m. based on the investigative work of state and local police in Massachusetts and U.S. marshals.
