N.J. Agents Honor Gilchrest of for Community Volunteer Service
The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New Jersey recently presented the Richard C. Hardenbergh Community Service Award to Richard J. Gilchrest of the Martin Agency in Toms River, New Jersey.
The award, presented annually in memory of Richard C. Hardenbergh, recognizes an industry individual who has made outstanding contributions to his or her community through voluntary service.
This year’s recipient, Richard Gilchrest, has dedicated himself to enriching the lives of young people through his church as both a teacher and advisor and through his volunteer work with the Boy Scouts of America. In the field of scouting he is a local leader in the Boy Scouts of America’s “Learning for Life Program” as well as a youth counselor and speaker. Gilchrest co-chairs the Eagle Scout Advancement Committee and dedicates much of his personal time to scouting programs and trips.
For the past several years, Gilchrest has served as a volunteer for the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New Jersey junior golf program, The Trusted Choice Big “I” Junior Golf Classic (formerly known as the IIAJC Junior Golf Tournament). The tournament is one of junior golfs major events. Gilchrest has served as an advisor and organizer of the New Jersey state qualifying tournament and will play a role in the 2006 state tournament scheduled for July 10, 2006.
In addition to his contributions to New Jersey youth, for over 20 years Gilchrest has been committed to the Visiting Homecare Agency of Ocean County, chairing committees as well as serving as its president. As a Rotarian, Gilchrest has served as president of his local chapter, a district representative, and was named a Paul Harris fellow.
