N.Y. Charges Two with Arson Fraud

New York’s Superintendent of Insurance Gregory V. Serio announced the arrest of Joseph Dolcimascolo and his mother, Martha, on charges of insurance fraud in the third degree and grand larceny in the third degree.

The pair are accused of filing a fraudulent claim stating that $6,980 worth of merchandise was lost due to a fire at the Dolcimascolo’s Plattsburgh, N.Y. residence.

On March 10, 2001, according to the NYSID, there was a reported fire in the apartment building where Mr. Dolcimascolo lived in Plattsburgh. The investigation revealed that the fire was not in his apartment and the only damage to his property was to a leather jacket that was in the hallway.

An investigation by the Insurance Frauds Bureau and the Plattsburgh Police Department resulted in the arrest of the individuals after an indictment was filed in Clinton County Court and a warrant issued. They were arrested on January 7, 2004 by the Plattsburgh Police Department and arraigned in Clinton County Court where they were released on their own recognizance.
