Md. Commissioner Urges Agents to Attend National Flood Insurance Workshops
Maryland Insurance Commissioner Alfred Redmer, Jr., is encouraging Maryland agents to take advantage of the free two-hour workshops being offered by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) on Nov. 24-25.
The workshops are designed to help insurance professionals, whether novice or experienced writers of flood insurance, better understand the NFIP.
“As we have seen with the recent hurricane, many citizens don’t understand whether they should purchase flood insurance,” Redmer said. “The more educated our Maryland agents are about the program, the more information people will have when they make their personal insurance decisions.”
The workshop will cover the rules and regulations for flood insurance, how to write a policy, what is an agent’s exposure if a policy is not written, and where agents can go for information about the program. Two hours of continuing education credit is available for attending the workshop. Although they are free, registration is required.
Workshops will be held Monday, Nov. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Cambridge; from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Barcelo Annapolis Hotel in Annapolis; on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. at the Computer Sciences Corporation, NFIP Bureau and Statistical Agent Auditorium in Lanham; and from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Prince Frederick.
Registration is available online at www.pware.com/2590. For additional information e-mail Rich Waalkes at rwaalkes@nfipstat.com.
