N.Y. Dept. Arrests Liverpool Man for Arson in Syracuse Building Fire
New York Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio announced that David W. Jones of Liverpool, New York, was arrested and charged with Arson in the third degree and Insurance fraud in the second degree.
It is alleged that Jones, owner of an apartment building in Syracuse, New York, submitted a fraudulent claim for over $250,000 to Erie Insurance Company as a result of a fire to the building on June 3, 2002. The fire originated in an area of the unoccupied building where Jones reportedly had been working with a map torch. Independent investigations revealed the fire to be incendiary in nature.
Jones was arrested and arraigned in Syracuse City Court and released on his own recognizance.
