N.Y. Men Face Insurance Fraud, Other Charges

New York Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio announced that Michael McGuire, Mark Marrelli, and Glen Marelli of Erie, N.Y. have been charged with arson, insurance fraud, attempted grand larceny, and criminal facilitation after allegedly setting fire to a car.

McGuire, the owner of the car, had been charged for hiring Mark Marrelli, 21, to take his vehicle so he could file a claim with State Farm Insurance Company. Marrelli then allegedly obtained the help of his uncle, Glenn Marrelli, who followed him to a location in Buffalo where the vehicle was burnt. Glenn then drove the subject from the scene. McGuire subsequently filed a claim valued at $15,592 with State Farm.

Michael McGuire had been charged with Arson, Insurance Fraud and attempted Grand Larceny and pled guilty to felony Insurance Fraud. Mark Marrelli had been charged with Arson, Insurance Fraud and Criminal Facilitation and pled to misdemeanor arson. Glenn Marrelli had been charged with Arson and Criminal Facilitation and pled to felony Arson. They will be sentenced at a later date.
