N.Y. Governor, Insurance Superintendent Address Jewish Insurance Concerns

New York Governor George Pataki and Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio announced a meeting with leaders of the Jewish community, the Governor’s Office of Community Affairs and the Insurance Superintendent on Sept. 4, 2002 to discuss insurance issues affecting the community.

“In response to recent concerns from the Jewish community regarding potential inequitable treatment by insurers, this meeting offers an opportunity for the Jewish community to discuss their concerns and for the state to offer assistance and alternatives in their procurement of affordable insurance,” said the governor.

“The governor has instructed the Department to review the procedures of all insurers to ensure equitable treatment of Jewish groups and facilities. The Insurance Department has initiated a review to examine any discriminatory behavior. We take these concerns very seriously and we need to make sure insurance companies honor their obligations and conduct business reasonably and lawfully,” said Superintendent Serio.
