Art Works Lost in WTC Attacks Valued at

Many priceless works of art were destroyed in the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings on September 11. Their total insured value could top $100 million Dietrich von Frank, who heads Axa Art Insurance Corp., told London’s Financial Times.

The works lost include Spanish artist Joan Miro’s “World Trade Center” tapestry which was specially commissioned for for the buildings in 1974, along with sculptures and drawings by Auguste Rodin, Roy Lichtentstein, Alexander Calder and Louise Nevelson.

Axa has put aside an estimate of $20 million on the three corporate collections it covered, but this may not represent their full value, as most art collections are only insured for around half of their value.
