Connecticut DOI Issues Cease and Desist to Internet Company
Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Susan F. Cogswell is warning car owners to double-check to ensure that companies are properly licensed in Connecticut before purchasing auto insurance. Only automobile liability insurance coverage purchased from a licensed insurance company satisfies Connecticut’s motor vehicle responsibility law.
“We have recently become aware of a company selling fraudulent auto insurance policies on the Internet,” said Commissioner Cogswell. “Even if they are unaware, residents purchasing fraudulent insurance expose themselves to additional liability as well as fines.”
The Insurance Department issued a cease and desist order to Puget’s Sound Agricultural Society, Limited from Winters, California after receiving a complaint from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Membership through Puget’s Sound does not satisfy Connecticut law.
