Safety National announced that Tim O’Grady joined the company as vice president for underwriting in the company’s large casualty division, which is responsible for large deductible workers’ compensation, commercial auto and commercial general liability coverage distribution. O’Grady has nearly 30 years of industry experience and a large account underwriting background. He is a former regional senior vice president with AIG Risk Management out of Georgia. In his new capacity with Safety National, O’Grady will be responsible for leading large casualty underwriting for the southwest region and Colorado through oversight of Safety National’s Dallas, Texas, office. O’Grady will be based out of Safety National’s Alpharetta, Georgia, office.

Quentin McMillan has joined American International Group as vice president, managing director and head of Investor Relations. McMillan joins AIG from Marsh McLennan where he was senior director of Investor Relations. Prior to Marsh McLennan, he worked for Keefe, Bruyette & Woods as managing director of Equity Research P&C Insurance. Based in New York City, McMillan will report to AIG Chief Financial Officer Mark Lyons. Sabra Purtill remains a deputy chief financial officer and treasurer for AIG, reporting to Lyons, and will continue to oversee Treasury and Banking and Rating Agency Relations. In addition, Purtill continues to serve as interim chief risk officer for AIG and is also taking a leading role in the separation of the Life and Retirement business from AIG.

Homeowners of America Insurance Company (HOAIC), a property/casualty insurance provider, has hired Adam Brookshire as a territory sales manager in Virginia. Brookshire has more than 10 years of insurance industry experience and has spent his most recent time with Selective Insurance. He is charged with helping to expand HOAIC’s growth in the region. Brookshire will manage the development of new and existing independent agency relationships throughout the state.

Merchants Insurance Group has named Tim Smith regional underwriting manager of the company’s Mid-Atlantic regional office in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. He assumed the regional underwriting manager position from John Iannello, who retired. Smith has experience working with both national and regional property/casualty insurance companies, in a variety of claims, marketing and underwriting roles. Most recently, he was a senior territory manager focused on working with agents in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In his new role, he will lead underwriting operations for Merchants’ Mid-Atlantic regional office by cultivating relationships with agencies representing the company, as well as internal colleagues and staff. Merchants Insurance Group is composed of Merchants Mutual Insurance Company, Merchants Preferred Insurance Co. and Merchants National Insurance Co.

Insurors of Tennessee has promoted Jim Layman to general counsel and appointed Daniel Smith as chief operating officer. The two will continue in their efforts to help grow the association, which represents independent insurance agents across the state. Layman, who joined Insurors in 2019, is responsible for compliance and legal issues, advocacy efforts, governance and committees. He previously was director of government relations. Smith, who also serves as chief marketing officer, is responsible for many aspects of the association’s operations including communications, financial management, events, marketing strategy and the industry partner program. He has been with Insurors since 2007. Insurors of Tennessee is a trade association that represents over 400 independent insurance agencies in Tennessee.

Crum & Forster has expanded its eRisk team with the addition Vlad Borovskyi as an underwriter in the Southeast region. Borovskyi will focus on underwriting cyber insurance, technology errors and omissions and miscellaneous professional liability coverages. Borovskyi comes to Crum & Forster from Beazley, where he underwrote and managed a book of specialty business. Borovskyi is based in Crum & Forster’s Roswell, Georgia, office. Nick Economidis, vice president of eRisk at Crum & Forster, said he is part of the company’s regional expansion strategy. Crum & Forster’s eRisk unit offers its Simple Cyber insurance product and other specialty coverages. Crum & Forster is a national property/casualty, accident and health and specialty insurance group.

Allen Craddock has been named deputy commissioner for hearings at the Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation. Craddock, who currently is director of hearings at the agency, will succeed Deputy Commissioner Kerry Sullivan, who is retiring. Craddock is board certified in workers’ comp law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Before joining DWC in 2013, he practiced full-time in workers’ comp representing medical providers, injured workers and employers.

Homeowners of America Insurance Company, an Irving, Texas-based property/casualty insurance provider, added Scott Garfield as a national account manager. Garfield has more than 20 years of insurance industry experience and has spent his most recent time with GeoVera Holdings Inc. In addition to his insurance background in senior management roles, Garfield has experience in account management and business development across the country. HOAIC is a Porch Group company.

Milwaukee, Wisc.-based Old Republic Surety Co., the nationwide surety carrier that is part of Old Republic International Corp., named Thomas A. Littlefield vice president and director of large accounts. Littlefield has nearly 34 years of contract surety experience. Littlefield reports to Dan Pope, senior vice president of underwriting, through the Brookfield home office. He will collaborate with the contract underwriting team, as well as with regional leaders and contract bond managers throughout the country.

Insurance brokerage and consulting firm Virtus LLC hired Andrew Ferworn as vice president and insurance consultant in Chicago. The 10-year Lincoln Financial group insurance sales leader will expand the firm’s private capital and commercial insurance practice.

Ferworn’s experience with nonmedical benefits and consulting with large employers will complement the Virtus team’s benefits consulting capabilities. He began in the group insurance business at Sun Life Financial. Virtus reported that it has also acquired teams in St. Louis and Kansas City in 2021.

Combined Insurance, a Chubb company and a provider of supplemental accident, health, disability and life insurance products, appointed Richard L. Williams Jr. president. Williams will oversee all Combined business operations, management and growth strategies. Williams joins Combined from Aflac Inc., where he was a core member of its global executive management team and most recently served as president of Aflac Group Benefits.

Walnut Creek, California-based CSAA Insurance Group has named Julie Brown executive vice president of commercial insurance. Brown will be responsible for the distribution of commercial insurance under the Mobilitas brand, which provides commercial insurance for the sharing economy and mobility sector.

She has more than 32 years of experience, encompassing commercial and all aspects of the business. Brown was previously senior vice president of distribution strategy at IAT Insurance Group.
