NationsBuilders Insurance Services, Inc. (NBIS), a provider of specialty program insurance to the heavy construction industry, has added Chris Nelson as transportation program manager.
Nelson will represent NBIS within the transportation industry, specifically the Specialized Transportation & Heavy Haul groups and the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA) membership, and will be responsible for engaging the agent network.
He will also be responsible for training and educating the industry on loss control and risk management in an effort to bring in new accounts and retain existing business.
Nelson joins NBIS from Clickstop where he was the president of US Cargo Control (USCC). Prior to USCC, he was vice president of Innovative Software Engineering (ISE).
Nelson has more than 15 years of experience in the transportation industry. He serves as vice chairman of the Safety, Education and Training committee for the SC&RA trade association.
At the same time, Joe Doerr will be transitioning to assistant program manager for Crane & Rigging within NBIS. He has been with NBIS for six years, with years of experience within the crane, rigging and specialty transportation industries.
Assured Risk Cover, the provider of StormPeace residential parametric insurance, has announced that former Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty has joined its board of advisors. McCarty served as Florida Insurance Commissioner from 2003 to 2016 and president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 2012.
Assured Risk Cover sells StormPeace hurricane insurance, which provides policies that pay out automatically and instantly based on the strength of a named hurricane and its distance from the insured’s property.
StormPeace covers expenses that are excluded by a traditional homeowners policy and can be used to even satisfy the hurricane deductible.
“I have always firmly believed that parametric insurance could be a very practical tool to enhance resiliency in society and accelerate the recovery of individual victims,” McCarty said.

DUAL Commercial LLC has hired Justin Goldfarb as an underwriter in the Professional Liability Program.
Goldfarb has 10 years of experience working with carriers such as Chubb and AIG, as well as maintaining broker relationships, writing complex accounts, and implementing broker retention strategies.
Goldfarb will work to support DUAL’s continued growth and company goals in the property, casualty, and professional lines of business.
Goldfarb will join DUAL in the Miami office.

Hub International Limited, a global insurance brokerage, has expanded its Nashville operation through the addition of entertainment specialist Taylor Shomaker, who has joined the firm as vice president.
Shomaker has spent more than 11 years in the concert and festival industry working as a festival director, event safety manager, risk manager, talent buyer, concert promoter and event producer.
He has extensive knowledge and experience in festival and concert management along with a specialized focus on safety management and risk assessment.
Shomaker most recently served as vice president of event operations at AC Entertainment (part of Live Nation), which produces festivals such as Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Forecastle Festival, High Water Festival, Homecoming Festival, Moon River Festival, and Big Ears Festival, as well as more than 1,000 concerts per year.

Members of the Professional Insurance Agents Southern Alliance elected Lorie Yauney to serve as chair of the group at its recent annual meeting.
Yauney currently serves as chief operating officer of J. Smith Lanier & Co., and is based in West Point, Ga.
She has been an active volunteer with PIA for the past 14 years, serving as CIC, CISR, and Education Committee Chair before being elected to PIA’s Executive Board in 2009.
