Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC (MMA), the middle market agency subsidiary of Marsh, has appointed Gary Ivey as Southeast regional CEO.

In this role, Ivey will oversee MMA offices in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Tallahassee, Fla. He reports to David Eslick, chairman and CEO of MMA.

Ivey has more than 40 years of experience, previously serving as J. Smith Lanier & Co.’s president and chief operating officer since 1999. MMA acquired J. Smith Lanier & Co. in January 2017 to serve as its Southeast regional hub.

Ivey will continue to be based in Atlanta and succeeds D. Gaines Lanier, who continues as chairman of the region.

MMA also announced the following appointments in its Southeast region:

Peter Krause has been named president. Krause brings more than 30 years of insurance underwriting, marketing and management experience to the role. He most recently served as senior vice president, managing director and marketing manager of J. Smith Lanier & Co. Krause is based in Atlanta and reports to Ivey.

Lorie Yauney has been named chief operating officer. Yauney has been with J. Smith Lanier & Co. for more than 20 years, most recently serving as vice president of human resources and training. She is based in West Point, Ga., and reports to Ivey.

JLT Re, part of the global provider of reinsurance broking and consultancy, has appointed Ariel Hernandez as senior vice president in Miami.

Hernandez will join the treaty team in Miami and lead the analytics efforts for the Caribbean, Central America and broader Latin America Region for JLT Re.

Hernandez joins JLT Re from Chaucer Syndicates Ltd. of The Hanover Insurance Group Inc., where he was a treaty underwriter. Prior to Chaucer, he worked at Swiss Re America Corp. as vice president, client manager and market underwriter, focusing on delivering reinsurance products to clients in the region.

According to David Flandro, global head of analytics for JLT Re, Hernandez’s appointment further strengthens JLT Re’s analytics function, particularly in Latin America.

Ariel joined JLT Re in early March.

The GEICO board of directors has named Gary McKenzie regional vice president of the company’s Macon, Ga.-based Southeast operations, which manages policies for customers in seven states. He previously served as assistant vice president of underwriting at GEICO’s Fredericksburg, Va., regional office.

McKenzie is the first alumnus of GEICO’s Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) to be named a regional vice president. He began his GEICO career as a member of the 2004 ELP class at the company’s San Diego regional office. After rotating through several claims, sales and service positions, he was promoted to claims service manager in 2005.

He relocated to Fredericksburg in 2007 to serve as planning and control manager before being named regional sales manager in 2008.

A year later, McKenzie was named service director at GEICO’s regional office in Buffalo, N.Y. In 2012, he was selected for a year-long executive assistant program at GEICO’s headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md.

McKenzie moved to Indianapolis in 2013 to help lead the company’s newest office. There, he served as sales and service director before being named assistant vice president in 2014.

Alternative Service Concepts, a national third-party claims administrator (TPA), has added Jim Matthews as a national account executive in its Norcross, Ga., office.

As a national account executive, Matthews will assume a business development role throughout the southeast region, including in Georgia and Florida.

He will report directly to ASC National Sales Director Matt Stickelmaier.

Matthews brings five years of sales experience to this position, including serving as a sales producer for AJ Gallagher.

Headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., ASC delivers workers’ compensation and property and casualty claims management expertise and customized products.
