The Alabama Department of Insurance has announced Jerry Workman as Deputy Commissioner. Workman will succeed Deputy Commissioner and Chief Actuary Charles Angell, who is retiring in July of 2018. He will lead the department’s Rates and Forms, Consumer Services and Strengthen Alabama Homes divisions.
Workman will work closely with Angell until his retirement.
Workman brings to the department three decades of experience in the insurance industry, most recently serving for 11 years as director of Government Affairs at Farmers Insurance. His experience includes orchestrating legislative projects and managing teams across 21 East Coast and Southern states, as well as holding executive management positions in claims and governmental affairs.
Workman has served in leadership positions on numerous insurance industry groups, including as chairman of the board of the Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association. He also has worked with the Alabama Center for Insurance Information and Research, the Alabama Insurance Council, the Georgia Insurance Information Service and the Mississippi Insurance Council.
He also served as a board member of the South Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association.
The Iroquois Group announced that Joya Schoolcraft has joined the company as its second regional manager for Florida.
Schoolcraft has been associated with Iroquois in various capacities for several decades. In 1992, she began working for an Iroquois Member Agency in Virginia and then continued her association with Iroquois when she served as a marketing rep for The Hartford for five years.
In 2004, Schoolcraft bought that same member agency and began growing it with Iroquois and her carrier partners. In 2012, Schoolcraft Insurance Agency became an Iroquois Preferred Member Agency.
Schoolcraft recently sold her agency to Iroquois and moved to southwest Florida, where she begins the next phase of her career serving Iroquois members in the southwestern portion of the state and enrolling new members across Florida.
Iroquois South is part of The Iroquois Group, serving member agencies in eight southeastern states.
Lockton’s Southeast team has added Cheryl Jennings as the new Southeast Commercial Insurance Department (CID) practice leader.
Jennings joins Lockton after a 35-year career with Marsh, Chubb, Hartford and most recently Wells Fargo Insurance Services.
In addition to her 25-year career with Marsh, she worked on property and casualty underwriting with Chubb and Hartford, where she held leadership positions. Jennings will work with leadership to develop strategies for commercial insurance growth as Lockton continues to expand in the Southeast.
Additionally, she will mentor and develop associates as they handle client relationships and progress in their own careers. Jennings will also manage carrier relationships and stay current on the latest market trends.
She will be based in Lockton’s Atlanta office but will serve as the leader for commercial insurance for the Southeast series, which encompasses offices in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.

Brightway Insurance has opened three new offices, including its first agency in Tennessee.
Erik Serio opened Brightway, The Serio Agency in Knoxville, Tenn; Eric Seuffert opened Brightway, The Seuffert Agency in Cape Coral, Fla.; and Rick Schaub opened Brightway, The Schaub Agency in Tampa, Fla.

Maritime Program Group, Inc. of Westbrook, Conn., has promoted Alison Kelly to chief underwriting officer.
Kelly, partner and branch manager for the MPG Atlanta office and now CUO, will have oversight over all of MPG’s underwriting programs. In this role, she will be working with MPG’s program managers and carrier partners to ensure a consistent approach across business units and will work to cultivate product innovation and execution.
Kelly has a more than 30-year career creating and managing recreational, ocean and inland marine programs.
