MMG Insurance Company, a regional property and casualty insurance company headquartered in Presque Isle, Maine, has promoted Steve Morgan to casualty claims manager, effective March 8, 2017.
Morgan joined MMG in 2014 as the department’s assistant manager. With a claims background that spans more than 30 years, Morgan has held various claims positions over his career including bodily injury adjuster, total loss specialist, property adjuster, theft specialist, field claims examiner and auto physical damage supervisor.
MMG Insurance Company has operations in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania and Virginia. With roots dating back to 1897, the company today writes in excess of $185 million in premiums in partnership with more than 190 independent agencies across 460 locations.
The Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut Inc. (PIACT) elected Kenneth A. Distel of Avon, Conn., as president at the association’s Annual Convention held in March at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn.
PIACT is a trade association representing professional, independent insurance agencies and their employees throughout the state.
Distel is area vice president of RPS Distel in Farmington, Conn.
As an active member of PIACT, Distel served as president-elect of the association in 2016-17, treasurer in 2015-16, and secretary in 2014-15. Currently, Distel is vice president of the Administrative/Nominations Committee. He also is a member of the Executive/Budget & Finance and Legislative/Business Issues Committees.
At the recent Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut (PIACT) annual business meeting, Peter Frascarelli, CPIA, of the Peter M. Bakker Agency of Avon, Conn., was named Professional Agent of the Year.
Frascarelli is the chief operating officer of Bakker Agency Insurance & Financial Services, which was recently acquired by Renaissance Alliance of Wellesley, Mass.
PIACT said in a statement that the Professional Agent of the Year award is designated annually to “a professional, independent agent who has demonstrated excellence and achievement in insurance marketing and service; has shown a personal commitment to professionalism; and has contributed to PIA and the community.”
An active member of PIACT since 1990, Frascarelli has served on virtually every PIACT committee, PIACT said in a statement. He was elected to the board of directors of PIACT and has held every officer position of the association, including president in 2014. Frascarelli currently is a member of the Legislative/Business Issues Committee. In his community, Frascarelli has served as a member of the Fairfield University Alumni Association and the Cheshire Land Trust, according to PIACT.
Satellite Agency Network Group Inc. (SAN), an alliance of independent insurance agencies in the Northeast headquartered in Hampton, N.H., has named Alexandra Huffman as insurance portfolio manager.
In this role, Huffman is responsible for oversight of SAN Group’s portfolio of books of business. Her duties also include working with SAN member agencies and insurance companies on insurance book management and quality control.
Huffman comes to SAN Group from the Strategic Insurance Agency Alliance (SIAA), where she served in a variety of roles, most recently as an insurance portfolio management analyst.
Cohen & Grigsby P.C., a law firm headquartered in Pittsburgh, Penn., has hired Roberta D. Anderson as a director.
Anderson’s practice is concentrated on insurance recovery and emerging cybersecurity and data privacy-related issues, including security incident planning and breach response.
She represents Fortune 50 companies, financial, healthcare, and educational institutions, early-stage technology companies and other entities in addressing a range of cybersecurity, data privacy and insurance recovery matters.
Anderson also has experience in the selection, drafting, negotiation and placement of cybersecurity and data privacy insurance, directors and officers liability insurance, professional liability insurance and other types of business insurance coverage.
Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, she was a co-founder of the cyber law and cybersecurity practice group at K&L Gates and a member of its insurance coverage practice group.
