Wholesale insurance broker Burns & Wilcox added Mary Mullen as personal insurance manager in its Chicago office.
Mullen, who most recently served as vice president, regional operations officer at Willis Towers Watson, will lead the Personal Lines practice within Burns & Wilcox Chicago.
She has more than 12 years of personal insurance experience. Mullen previously worked as vice president, Private Client Services, at Chartwell Insurance Services and personal lines underwriter at Chubb Insurance.
Managing general agency and surplus lines broker J.M. Wilson hired Chance Winke and Tim Frawley in underwriting positions in its Arlington Heights, Ill., office.
Winke is an assistant in the transportation underwriting department and will serve independent insurance agents in Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska. Prior to joining J.M. Wilson, he worked for a retail agency, where he handled both personal lines and commercial property and casualty business. Previously, he was a financial representative.
Frawley is an assistant property/casualty underwriter and will also serve independent insurance agents in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska. Prior to joining J.M. Wilson, Frawley worked with Liberty Mutual as a personal lines sales representative.
Buckeye State Mutual Insurance Co. (BSMIC) in Piqua, Ohio, appointed John Brooks executive vice president and chief operations officer (COO).
Brooks joined Buckeye in 2001 as assistant vice president of Claims and was later appointed senior vice president of Insurance Operations and COO.
He holds the ARe, AIM, AIC and CPCU designations from the Insurance Institute of America.
Buckeye State Mutual currently markets insurance products in Ohio, Indiana, Kansas, South Dakota, Colorado and Georgia.
Ironshore Inc. added David Harrell in its Specialty Casualty unit as vice president, casualty manager in the Chicago office. He is responsible for Ironshore’s Specialty Casualty product lines throughout the Midwest region.
Harrell joins Ironshore from Chubb/ACE USA where he served as regional vice president for the Midwest. Previously, he was an underwriting specialist with American International Group.
Lawyers professional liability specialist Nate Stortzum joined the ProQuest division of Newport Beach, Calif.-based Alliant Insurance Services as vice president. Stortzum is based in Chicago
Prior to joining ProQuest, Stortzum was Midwest regional manager for the IronPro division of Ironshore. He also worked with Lloyd’s of London brokers on U.S. and non-U.S. business.
Stortzum is a member of the Midwest Insurance Committee for City of Hope and a member of the Midwest board of directors for the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS).
Lt. Governor Mary Taylor named two to key posts at the Ohio Department of Insurance.
Allison Conklin will serve as assistant director of Legislative Affairs and Amanda Baird is the new general counsel.
Baird supervises legal assistance provided to the department’s divisions and litigation. Previously, she was counsel at the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Financial Institutions.
Conklin manages the department’s legislative initiatives and engages industry stakeholders. The department’s former legislative liaison, she previously worked in the Ohio Senate and United States Senate.
ALIVE RISK, a division of independent wholesale insurance brokerage firm All Risks Ltd., hired Don DeWitt as director of Motorsports. He is based in Ft. Wayne, Ind., and will work with retail insurance agents nationwide. The program targets classes consisting of race teams, sponsors, racing associations, racing facilities and events.
DeWitt has more than 30 years of underwriting, sales and marketing experience working for motorsports insurance companies, and formerly served as the program leader for K&K Motorsports. In addition to working with the motorsports community, he has experience providing additional coverage options for facilities including concert and drone exposures, and other contingent liability risks that promoters face in the insurance industry.
Insurance broker Lockton added Jerry Paulson in its Chicago office as producer and senior vice president. He will work with Lockton’s clients on political risks, credit risks, and the risks associated with trade and investment in emerging and domestic markets.
Paulson has 15 years of experience in trade credit insurance consulting and business development. Most recently, he was head of Bank Channel in the Americas Region for Euler Hermes North America.
