John Q. Doyle, who was ousted from the executive ranks of American International Group in a management shakeup in December, is joining global insurance broker Marsh.
Marsh said it has appointed Doyle as president, effective April 15.
In this newly-created leadership role at Marsh, Doyle will oversee Marsh’s global brokerage businesses. He will join Marsh’s Executive Committee as well as the Executive Committee of Marsh & McLennan Companies.
Doyle will report to Peter Zaffino, CEO of Marsh, and chairman of Risk and Insurance Services, and will be based in Marsh’s New York office.
An insurance industry leader for more than two decades, Doyle most recently was chief executive officer for AIG’s commercial insurance businesses worldwide. He was responsible for AIG’s property, casualty, financial lines, specialty lines, institutional markets and mortgage guaranty products and services. Previously, Doyle served as president and CEO of Chartis U.S.
AIG CEO Peter Hancock announced a management team realignment last December that resulted in departures of several high-ranking executives. In addition to Doyle, those leaving included David Herzog, chief financial officer; Jose Hernandez, CEO Asia Pacific; and Eric Martinez, executive vice president Global Claims and Operations.
New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the appointment of Mary Beth Woods as executive director of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board, where she had been acting director.
Woods succeeds Mark Wade who left the executive director post last December to join Argo Group’s U.S. operations as chief claims officer.
Woods has worked at the Workers’ Compensation Board for over 15 years, and held titles including deputy executive director, director of Financial Administration and director of Licensing.
From 1990-1998, Woods worked at the New York State Division of the Budget, where she was an associate budget examiner. She was also supervising senior accountant at KPMG Peat Marwick.
The Hartford Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Swift was named chairman of the board of directors of the American Insurance Association (AIA), serving a one-year term. Swift succeeds Michael McGavick, CEO of XL Group, as chairman.
In March 2010, Swift was named executive vice president and chief financial officer of The Hartford. He became CEO in June 2014.
The Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut Inc. (PIACT) announced that Loretta Lesko, vice president of operations for the DiMatteo Group in Shelton, Connecticut, has been elected president of PIACT for 2016-17.
Lesko served as president-elect in 2015-16; vice president in 2014-15; treasurer in 2013-14 and vice president of the Administrative/Nominations Committee.
PIACT also elected following new officers for 2016-17: Ken Distel, vice president of the Distel Group, as president-elect; Marissa Barbera, president of Charter Oak Agency, as vice president; Nathan Shippee, vice president of sales & marketing for Workers’ Compensation Trust, as treasurer; and Mark Connelly, president and chief executive officer of Fairfield County Bank Insurance Services, as secretary.
Satellite Agency Network (SAN) Group Inc., an alliance of independent insurance agencies in the Northeast, has hired Jim Cassell as regional vice president for New Hampshire and Maine.
Cassell is responsible for membership sales and service, member agency development, and insurance company relations for all SAN Group member agencies in both states.
Prior to joining SAN Group, Cassell was senior branch manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance.
CNA has promoted Tony Rhodes to vice president of its Baltimore, Maryland, branch.
Rhodes will be responsible for leading the Baltimore branch to achieve its goals for continued growth and profitability through producer relationships.
Rhodes has been serving as business development leader for Pennsylvania and New Jersey branches since joining CNA in 2013. Prior to joining CNA, he was the division sales executive for the New York and New Jersey territories for The Hartford.
Hub International Limited has hired Ross Albert as assistant vice president of Organizational Resilience.
Albert will be responsible for establishing intelligence-led risk management programs for clients and developing public-private intelligence cooperation. He will be based in Hub’s New York City office.
Albert previously was an anti-money laundering analyst for K2 Intelligence, where he advised financial institutions on anti-money laundering and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations and regulatory compliance.
