The Florida Surplus Line Service Office (FSLSO) has promoted Bryan Young to assistant director of Agent Services. Coming into his 10th year of service at FSLSO, Young stepped into the role effective Jan. 1.
During his tenure with FSLSO, Young has worked in all aspects of the Agent Services department including premium reconciliation, insurance analysis and compliance review. Most recently he served as the Compliance Review coordinator.
The Agent Services department is charged with facilitating the compliance and regulatory responsibilities facing surplus lines agents and insurers in Florida.
FSLSO was established by the Florida Legislature in 1997 and began operations in October of 1998, as constituted under the provisions of Florida Statute 626.921. Its chief purposes are to protect consumers, monitor marketplace compliance and protect state revenues.
Baldwin Krystyn Sherman Partners (BKS-Partners), an independent insurance brokerage firm in Florida, has promoted Kristy Desmarais to Benefits director.
Desmarais is now responsible for the strategic planning and execution of employee benefits programs for some of the firm’s largest clients.
In her new role, Desmarais will work on developing and analyzing benefit strategies; managing account stewardship; monitor compliance and regulatory issues; lead benefit-related issues with mergers and acquisitions; and navigate healthcare reform on behalf of clients.
BKS-Partners is a privately held firm providing private risk management, commercial risk management, employee benefits, and Vitality programs to clients throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Amlin plc, the specialist international insurer, has appointed Lucas Castagnino as lead to help build out its Latin America underwriting operations, which launched in Miami in 2014.
With experience in the Latin American reinsurance market, Castagnino joins from SCOR’s Latin American and Caribbean platform, where he was vice president.
He will report to Louis de Segonzac, head of Latin America, and will be based in Amlin’s expanding Miami office.
The move follows the appointment last year of Edward Herrara as senior underwriter, Amlin said in a statement.
Amlin’s Miami operation underwrites all non-life treaty products and provides quotations for new and renewal business. Risks are underwritten on behalf of Amlin’s Lloyd’s Syndicate 2001.
Trinity Underwriting Managers, Inc. (TUMI), a Georgia-based program administrator, announced the hiring of Steven Hand.
Hand joins TUMI as brokerage director and will be responsible for managing the company’s wholesale brokerage division.
He has more than 25 years of experience within the industry and has spent time on the retail, wholesale and carrier side of the business.
Earlier in his career, Hand served as a vice president at 5 Star Specialty Programs, a vice president at Aon, and a senior underwriter at AIG.
Founded in 2008, TUMI is a program manager that underwrites niche transportation programs on a nationwide basis through a network of appointed retail agents. TUMI operates a wholesale division which places those risks that fall outside the parameters of their established program underwriting guidelines.
Alliant Insurance Services, a nationwide specialty insurance brokerage firm, has announced that renewable energy expert Bob Gary has joined its Energy and Marine Group as senior vice president. Gary will oversee business development and program design for a national portfolio of clients.
The North Carolina-based Gary joins Alliant with more than 18 years of experience, which includes building customized programs.
Prior to joining Alliant, Gary was vice president with a global insurance agency leading a renewables and real estate team, where he employed innovative risk transfer vehicles to de-risk transactions.

Validus Holdings, Ltd., has appointed Rob Halsey as vice president, Atlanta Property manager. In this new position, Halsey will be responsible for building and maintaining the Validus Underwriters Excess & Surplus property business in the Southeast United States and write on behalf of Western World.
Halsey has more than fifteen years of experience in property wholesale brokerage and excess & surplus underwriting in the insurance industry. Prior to joining Validus, he served as a senior underwriter of the Excess & Surplus Commercial Property Business at Admiral Insurance.
