Shawn Kay has joined the staff at BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Company as a customer service representative in the Miami office working with personal insurance clients.
Kay joined BB&T-OTC after completing his training with Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers, a nonprofit organization with the mission to educate, train and create meaningful employment opportunities within the insurance industry for disabled veterans. He is the third veteran to complete the DVIC training and accept a job in the insurance industry.
He currently holds a 440 license and Certified Insurance Service Representative professional designation and plans to pursue his Certified Insurance Counselor designation and a business management degree.
BB&T-OTC provides insurance and risk-management services to families and businesses throughout Florida. The agency offers protection through its offices in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Holmes Beach, Miami, Naples, Ocala and Weston.

Insurance broker and consultant NFP has expanded its P&C capabilities and added to its employee benefits operation by acquiring Trinity Consulting. The transaction closed on March 3, 2015.

Ohio-based State Auto Financial Corporation and State Automobile Mutual Insurance Co. hired Michael E. LaRocco as president and chief executive officer.
LaRocco officially takes over the duties of current President and CEO Robert P. Restrepo Jr. on May 8. Until that time Restrepo will work closely with LaRocco during the transition. Restrepo will remain as chairman of the companies until his retirement on Dec. 31.
During LaRocco’s more than 35 years in the property and casualty insurance industry, he’s led large national carriers and formed a technology startup.
His insurance career began with management and executive roles at Progressive and GEICO. He also has served as president and chief operating officer at Safeco Insurance Companies, and president and CEO of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co.
LaRocco most recently served as president and CEO of AssureStart, a Seattle-based technology startup selling general liability and property insurance to small businesses online.
