Chris Hayes
Specialty Insurance Managers Inc., a managing general agent based in Austin, Texas, hired Chris Hayes, a former Lloyds of London underwriter, to oversee a new high value homeowners insurance program in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.

Hayes will facilitate the expansion of the program into additional territories.

Waco, Texas-based National Lloyds Corp., an insurance holding company and wholly owned subsidiary of Hilltop Holdings Inc., hired industry veteran Robert Otis as chief executive officer effective April 1.

Otis joins National Lloyds Corp. from Allstate Insurance where he most recently served as chief underwriting officer for Allstate’s personal lines of insurance.

Otis has more than 25 years of personal lines insurance experience. He began his career as an underwriter with SAFECO Insurance and held senior executive positions with Travelers Insurance and Middlesex Mutual Assurance. Otis also held executive positions with USAA.

He holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.

Covington, La.-based Fidelis Group Holdings LLC (FGH), through its subsidiary Continental Underwriters Ltd., a marine and inland marine insurance coverage and service provider, appointed Michael L. Civisca as executive vice president. He is based in New York.

Civisca has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. He began his career with Marsh and McLennan in the marine and energy department. He also previously served Navigators Group as a marine and energy underwriter, and as president and chief operating officer of Navigators Management Co.

Twenty four insurance and risk management students at five Texas universities were awarded academic scholarships from the Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Education Foundation.

The students attend Huston-Tillotson University, Texas Southern University, the University of Texas Pan American, the University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Houston – Downtown.

Scholarship recipients at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin under Professor Jesus Pedre are Nora Delgado, Angela Gallimore and Tosa Nixon.

Students at Texas Southern University in Houston under Dr. Zahid Iqbal who were awarded scholarships are Barbara Carter and Dalen O’Neal.

Students at the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg under Dr. Steven Lovell and Dr. Terrence Martin who received scholarships are Adrian Lozano, Albert Arredondo, Rodolfo Avila, Armando Mejia and Juan Rosales.

Scholarship recipients at the University of Texas at San Antonio under Professor Ron Sweet were Taryn Dykes, Duy Lam, Briza Ling, Ca Nguyen and Cameron Perot.

At the University of Houston Downtown under Dr. Wendall Braniff and Dr. Pam Hurley, students receiving scholarships are Anna Berry, Mohamed Diarra, Justin Gonzalez, Stacy Massey, Thien Nguyen and Manuel Solano.

Since the program began in 2002, the ICT Education Foundation has awarded $681,000 to 329 insurance and risk management students at 10 Texas universities. Each student received a scholarship and an invitation to attend ICT’s annual Mid-Year Symposium in Austin.
