Dallas, Texas – based RISC named Shawn O. Fabors president of the company upon the retirement of William D. Staub, Jr. The transition was effective Apr. 1.
Staub joined RISC as president in January 2003 after serving as president and COO with a national wholesaler.He began his insurance career in 1977 as a casualty underwriter with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Philadelphia. He also has served National Re as a casualty facultative reinsurance.
Fabors joined RISC as chief sales officer in 2008, with primary responsibilities of producer development and top line production.
Fabors’ tenure with RISC also included the underwriting and management of the small business unit and the contractor select casualty programs. Fabors currently serves as secretary/treasurer on the board of the Texas Surplus Lines Association.
Prior to joining RISC, Fabors served as the territory sales director of a leading national property and casualty insurance company.
He began his insurance career in 1998 working for a large well-known international property and casualty insurance carrier, where he held the positions of branch manager and business development manager of the premium finance operation, and regional manager of financial institutions.
Fabors also was a senior broker for a national wholesale insurance brokerage firm based in Dallas.
Adam Sammons has been recognized as the Young Agent of the Year by the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas (IIAD).
The award recognizes an independent agent in the Dallas area under the age of 40 who has displayed exceptional leadership skills both in the insurance industry and in the local community.
The award was re-named the “Charlie Sammons Service and Leadership Award” in 2006 after Adam’s father, who passed away from cancer when Adam was a senior in high school.
Adam Sammons currently chairs the Young Agent Advisory Council in Texas and was nominated to the IIAD Board in 2013.
Sammons is 28 years-old and is a producer with Dallas-based MHBT.
Shreveport, La.-based Specialty Risk Associates Inc. announced that Cody Faust joined the firm as a commercial lines underwriter.
Prior to joining Specialty Risk, Faust worked in marketing and business development for a general agency. He has four years of experience in the insurance business.Faust holds an ASLI designation and is pursuing his AU.
Specialty Risk has offices in Shreveport and Baton Rouge, La.; Ridgeland, Miss.; and Fort Worth and Royse City, Texas.
LevelFirst, a wholesale insurance broker and managing general agency based in Dallas, Texas, announced that Kate Innocent has joined the firm as an associate underwriter.
Innocent brings more than 10 years of insurance experience and holds the CIC and CLCS designations. Her focus will be on contract and binding authority business.
In addition to Dallas, LevelFirst has offices in Austin and Houston.
Texas Associates Insurors added David Thomas as a risk solutions adviser.
Thomas, a former football player for the University of Texas has a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, and has earned the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation.
Thomas joins Texas Associates Insurors after a seven-year NFL career including four years with the New Orleans Saints, during which time the team won Super Bowl XLIV.

The Leavitt Group opened a new office, Risk Services – Leavitt Insurance Agencies, in Houston that is co-managed/owned by Vladimir Chemadurov and Rob Eppers.
Prior to joining the Leavitt Group, Chemadurov worked for GEM leading its practice in professional and contractual liability driven risks. He has experience in professional liability, contractual and product liability, commercial property, workers’ compensation and Texas non-subscription insurance.
Chemadurov holds Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designations and is a member of Houston Contractors Association (HCA) and the Texas Assisted Living Association (TALA).
Eppers is the COO for the Leavitt’s Risk Services of Louisiana offices, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business and developing strategic management initiatives. He has been with Risk Services of Louisiana for more than four years and in the insurance industry for 12 years.
