Atlanta-based insurance broker Beecher Carlson, a division of Brown & Brown Inc., has appointed Frederick Wass as senior vice president. He will be responsible for risk analysis, program design and delivery of Beecher Carlson’s National Energy Practice services and resources. Bringing 30 years of energy experience, Wass will report to Rob Bothwell, president of Energy. Prior to joining Beecher Carlson, Wass was with NRG Energy Inc. in Princeton, New Jersey. Prior to joining NRG, Wass was with the Houston Energy Group and the Coastal Power Co. in Houston.

Bothell, Wash.-based insurance software firm Vertafore has named Alex Lintner president and CEO. He will also be joining the board of directors. The company said Lintner’s appointment is part of a managed executive transition, which has been coordinated by the lead investor team from TPG Capital and current CEO Euan Menzies. Menzies will continue to be involved with the company, and is assuming a new position as vice chairman of the board. Menzies cited personal reasons for his decision to step down from the CEO role, which he has held for the past 12 years. Lintner most recently held the role of president of Intuit’s global business division. He joined Intuit in 2005 as senior vice president of corporate strategy and development after a career in management consulting with firms including The Boston Consulting Group.

Willis North America announced that James Doyle has been appointed managing partner of Willis’ Tampa operations. Doyle will oversee Tampa operations and will focus on strategic planning, client service and retention, recruiting and staff development, sales and sales management. He will report to Hiram Marrero, CEO and regional partner, Willis of Florida. Prior to joining Willis, Doyle served as executive vice president, Aon Risk Services Inc.

Consulting firm PwC US announced that Alice V. Edwards has joined the firm as managing director for the forensic services practice in the Atlanta office. Edwards will focus on insurance claims services and will help clients analyze, measure and recover business interruption, extra expense and property damage claims resulting from major insurance losses. Edwards previously worked with forensic accounting services firm Dempsey Partners, which is now part of Aon Global Risk Consulting.

Jacksonville, Florida-based national insurance agency franchise company Brightway Insurance has promoted Talman Howard to president of the company, with day-to-day management responsibilities for the organization. Howard has served as chief marketing officer for Brightway since December of last year.

The company also announced that Heather Wesch, director of business development, has been named assistant vice president of marketing. In this new role, Wesch will be responsible for leading franchise sales, business development and marketing.

Brightway has 600 associates in 115 offices, and generates more than $300 million in annual sales.

John A. Miklus has been named the new president of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU), the trade association representing the U.S. ocean marine insurance market. Miklus succeeds James M. Craig, president of AIMU since 2003, who will retire Dec. 31, 2013. A senior ocean marine insurance and reinsurance executive, Miklus most recently was senior vice president at Guy Carpenter & Co. Miklus began his insurance career as an inland/ocean marine underwriter trainee at The Hartford Insurance Group in 1982 and held several positions at Hart Re Co. before becoming senior vice president and marine treaty underwriter.
