Steven Handmaker has been promoted to chief marketing officer at Assurance, a Chicago-area independent insurance brokerage. He previously was executive vice president, marketing and communications at Assurance.

Handmaker serves as a member of Assurance’s executive management team and is responsible for the company’s marketing, communications and branding efforts.

Prior to Assurance, he was director of marketing and communications for Near North National Group. He was responsible for the overall internal and external marketing and communications efforts of Near North’s association and affinity group practice, National Professional Group.

Indianapolis, Ind.-based Arlington/Roe & Co. has hired Kate Graeter as national aviation insurance broker and marketer.

Graeter has 16 years of insurance industry experience and formerly was aviation manager for a regional insurance wholesaler. She was 2011 – 2012 president of Louisville Association of Insurance Professionals and 2008 Insurance Professional of the Year, and holds the CPCU, CAIP, CPIW professional designations.

Cincinnati, Ohio-based employee benefits and financial services consulting organization, HORAN, has added Carol King as its health management leader.

King works directly with clients to create customized wellness plans built around their specific organizational and employee needs.

King comes to HORAN with more than 35 years of clinical and executive experience from the region’s leading health care organizations. Her nursing background paired with business knowledge gained from hospital operations and patient care leadership positions her as an ideal resource for HORAN clients.

Iowa-based independent broker Holmes Murphy & Associates has named Mike Foley, a senior vice president and shareholder of the company, as its newest board member.

During his more than 25 years at Holmes Murphy, Foley has contributed to the success of the Holmes Murphy’s Employee Benefits division through his specialization in marketing, self-funding, underwriting, and overall market analysis.

Foley provides comprehensive employee benefits consulting and brokerage services for corporations, colleges, cities, school districts, and hospitals throughout the Midwest. Foley and his team supply superior proactive service to clients throughout the year, while staying focused on the client’s budget.

Foley holds his Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) designation and is licensed in Iowa for life, accident and health, and legal Insurance.

Monitor Liability Managers LLC, based in Rolling Meadows, Ill., promoted Lynette Lyngaas to the position of vice president of underwriting – employment practices liability, management liability.

Lyngaas, formerly assistant vice president of underwriting – employment practices liability, management liability, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Monitor’s employment practices liability and management liability product lines. She was integral in developing Monitor’s current industry-specific EPLI programs and continues to design new coverage enhancements to meet the needs of Monitor’s insureds.

Lyngaas has 23 years of insurance industry experience.

Insurance broker Lockton expanded its loss control team with the addition of Kevin Hoffman as senior loss control consultant in its St. Louis, Mo., office.

Hoffman has more than 15 years of experience in managing hospital safety programs and will work directly with Lockton’s healthcare clients to provide strategic direction and advice to large healthcare organizations, including hospitals, long-term care facilities and physician groups.

Hoffman joins Lockton from Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. in St. Louis, where he was a senior loss control consultant. Prior to Gallagher, he was a senior loss control consultant with EBI Cos. and director of Safety and Security at several large healthcare/hospital systems.

Hoffman is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and holds numerous certifications in insurance and safety.

Ty Carter, an experienced aviation risk management executive and pilot joined the Lockton Global Aviation Group in the insurance broker’s Kansas City office as producer. Carter is responsible for advising clients on risk management, insurance and developing new business opportunities.

Carter joins Lockton from Lance Toland Associates where he advised aviation clients on aviation insurance and risk management for seven years. He also has been active in the Pilatus Owners and Pilots Association (POPA) as a board advisor, board chairman, and board member for a decade.

Carter has been an active pilot for more than 20 years, specializing in Pilatus aircraft. He earned the Pilot of the Year award from Angel Flight Central in 1999 for flying people in need with medical issues more than 300,000 miles. The American Red Cross recognized him in 2001 for his assistance as a pilot after the 9/11 attack.
