The newly elected officers of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) for 2013 assumed their duties on Jan. 1. They are: Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon as NAIC president; North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm as president-elect; Montana State Auditor and Commissioner of Securities and Insurance Monica Lindeen as vice president; and Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael Consedine as secretary-treasurer.

Donelon succeeds Kevin McCarty, Florida insurance commissioner, as NAIC president.

Kenneth Kobylowski, who has been serving as acting commissioner of New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance for the past one year, was recently confirmed by the State Senate to be the new commissioner.

Kobylowski has been serving as the acting commissioner since February 2012 when then-commissioner Tom Considine left the post to become the chief operating officer of MagnaCare, a health plan management company. Kobylowski first joined the department as chief of staff in February 2010.

Aon Risk Solutions, the global risk management business of Aon plc, recently announced the additions of Christian Wise as senior vice president and Karen Cangemi as vice president of the company’s New England property practice.

Both Wise and Cangemi are based in Aon Risk Solutions’ Boston office. Previously, Wise served as senior vice president at Guy Carpenter. Cangemi most recently served as senior vice president and property and marine broker at William Gallagher Associates.

Marsh, the insurance broking division of Marsh & McLennan Cos., announced that Douglas Schwab has rejoined the firm as its new East and Central zone mining leader. Based in Pittsburgh, he rejoins Marsh from Wells Fargo Insurance Services, where he was a senior vice president. He was previously an account executive in Marsh’s Pittsburgh office from 1987 to 1991.

Additionally, Marsh named Eugene “Tripp” Sheehan as U.S. Financial Institutions practice leader. Since joining Marsh in 1993, Sheehan has held a variety of positions within the firm’s financial and professional liability (FINPRO). He is based in Boston.

Holborn Corp., an independent reinsurance brokerage based in New York, announced that Simon Hudson has joined the firm as senior vice president. He will be based in the firm’s New York City office. Previously, Hudson served as managing director at Guy Carpenter & Co.

SPARTA Insurance Co. in Hartford, Conn., appointed Mario Chiappetti as senior vice president of professional lines. Most recently, Chiappetti was vice president of distribution for Everest National Insurance Co.

John Phelps, director of business risk solutions for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, has been tapped to serve as the president of the Risk Management Society (RIMS) for 2013. His term began on Jan. 1.

Also, Gordon Adams, chief risk officer at Tri-Marine International Inc., and Grace Crickette, chief risk officer at the University of California, joined RIMS’ board for 2013.

W.R. Berkley Corp. announced Gregory Douglas has been named president of its B F Re Underwriters unit in Stamford, Conn. Douglas succeeds Daniel Avery, who will continue to oversee other activities within W.R. Berkley Corp. Douglas joined B F Re as executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2010.

W.R. Berkley Corp. also announced Michael Dandini has been named president of the company’s FinSecure unit in Baltimore. He served most recently as senior vice president of financial products for a major property/casualty insurer.

MetLife Inc. announced Ricardo Anzaldua joined the company as general counsel. Based in New York, he succeeds Nicholas Latrenta who retired after a 43-year career at MetLife. Anzaldua joins MetLife from The Hartford Financial Services Group where he was associate general counsel and senior vice president.

XL Group plc’s North America property business appointed Joseph Moylan as its Northeast regional manager. Based in New York, Moylan joins XL Group from Axis Capital, where he served as senior vice president.

Additionally, XL Group plc’s North American marine business expanded its blue water hull risk management capabilities in New York with the addition of Siobhan Coen and Jeff Loechner as senior underwriters and Eileen Fellin as a senior claims consultant.

Keystone Insurers Group appointed Julie Webb as its Pennsylvania state vice president. Webb has spent the majority of her career with GEICO, where she served as underwriting supervisor, training manager and, most recently, sales manager.

GEICO, a Chevy Chase, Md.-headquartered auto insurance unit of Berkshire Hathaway, recently named Jeremy Connor as assistant vice president of regional claims operations at GEICO’s Fredericksburg, Va., office. He previously served as director for personal injury protection claims in GEICO’s Woodbury, N.Y., regional office.

Business Risk Partners (BRP), a Windsor, Conn.-based managing general underwriter, appointed Jayne Downey as a senior underwriter overseeing the firm’s technology errors-and-omissions (E&O) and data breach/privacy products. For over a decade, Downey worked as an underwriter with Chubb Specialty Insurance in its wholesale unit.
