Marsh & McLennan Cos. appointed J. Michael Bischoff as chief financial officer. Bischoff has been serving as interim CFO since March 2012 when then-CFO Vanessa Wittman resigned to join Google as its Motorola Mobility Holdings unit CFO. Before serving as interim CFO, Bischoff was responsible for leading the company’s corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, treasury and investor relations functions. He’s been with Marsh & McLennan since 1982.
Meanwhile, Marsh, the insurance broking and risk management division of Marsh & McLennan Cos., promoted Liz Flynn to the newly created position of president of its Insurance Services Businesses unit. The Insurance Services Businesses unit is a new grouping of several Marsh businesses that complement its core broking operations, including CS STARS, a provider of risk and claims management technology, and US Consumer, a broker and administrator of affinity insurance and membership programs. Flynn is based in New York. She will retain her current responsibilities as president and CEO of US Consumer. Additionally, Marsh appointed Carmela Inneo as head of its Hartford, Conn., office. Inneo succeeds Paul Clawson, who is now head of Marsh’s office in Charlotte, N.C. Inneo previously was a member of Marsh’s Client Executive Practice in New York.
The Hartford Financial Services Group promoted Robert Bateman to senior vice president and controller of the company. Bateman succeeds Beth Bombara who was recently promoted to lead The Hartford’s Life Runoff business. Bateman will be responsible for the accounting operations of the company. Previously, Bateman was senior vice president and chief financial officer for The Hartford’s Commercial Markets division. Additionally, The Hartford named Matthew Kirk senior vice president of sales and distribution for the commercial markets division. He is based in Hartford, Conn. Kirk joined The Hartford in 2006, most recently serving as senior vice president and director of government affairs. He succeeds Mike Concannon, who was appointed to lead The Hartford’s Group Benefits segment earlier this year. Succeeding Kirk as senior vice president of government affairs is Jay Rosenblum. Rosenblum has led the company’s federal affairs team in Washington, D.C., as vice president of federal affairs.
Hartford, Conn.-based SPARTA Insurance Co. appointed longtime insurance industry executive Ralph E. Jones III as president and chief operating officer. Jones has been serving as CEO at Jones Companies after leaving Everest Re Group, where he was president and chief operating officer from 2008 to 2010. He was also chairman and CEO at Arch Worldwide Insurance Group of Arch Capital Group Ltd., from 2003 to 2008. Previously, he also served as CEO of Chubb Executive Risk, which later became Chubb Specialty Insurance.
W. R. Berkley Corp. appointed Joseph Sullivan as president of Facultative Resources Inc. He is based in Stamford, Conn. Facultative Resources is a broker market casualty, professional liability and property facultative underwriting manager for its affiliate, Berkley Insurance Co., a U.S. domestic professional reinsurance company and a member company of W. R. Berkley Corp. Sullivan succeeds Gerald King, who was appointed vice chairman of Berkley Facultative Reinsurance Services, LLC. Sullivan most recently served as Facultative Resources’ executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Erie, Penn.-based Erie Insurance announced three officer appointments. Richard Burt was promoted to executive vice president of product. Christina Marsh was promoted to the newly created position of senior vice president of services. Dionne Wallace Oakley was promoted to senior vice president of human resources.
