Holborn Corp., a reinsurance intermediary based in New York, said John Gilbert has stepped down as chairman of the board of directors, a position he has held since 2005. Gilbert — who joined the firm 50 years ago — will retire from his other management duties at the year’s end, while continuing to serve as a Holborn director. The board said CEO Frank Harrison will also take on the chairman post.

Woodbridge, N.J.-based broker NIP Group promoted Donna Jantzen to the position of president of its programs division. Jantzen has been serving as vice president of programs since joining NIP in 2005.

The Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission recently announced Stephen Morelli joined the group as its newest commissioner. The commission has 16 commissioners in total, one of whom serves as chairman. The current chairman is John Mastropietro. Morelli was appointed to the spot by Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy after one of the commissioners, Clifton Thompson, passed away in May.

A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Cos., a workers’ compensation insurer based in Burlington, Mass., appointed Michael Standing as vice president. Previously, Standing was with Guy Carpenter & Co., where he was senior vice president, account executive and a member of the workers comp specialty practice for nine years.

Southport Lane, a New York-based private equity firm, appointed Jim McNichols as chief actuarial officer of its reinsurance group, Southport Re. Previously, McNichols was a consulting actuary for Aon.

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies named John Murphy as its state affairs manager for the Northeast region. Murphy is based in the Boston office. He replaces Paul Tetrault, who now serves as NAMIC’s state and policy affairs counsel. Previously, he was vice president and counsel at Hanover Insurance Co.

Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, based in Montpelier, Vt., hired Susan Chicoine as the human resources director. Previously, Chicoine held a senior human resources management position with TD Bank. The insurer also promoted Lu Gambero to project manager in its information technology department. Gambero has over 25 years experience in the information technology field.

Liberty International Underwriters, part of Liberty Mutual Insurance’s global specialty lines unit, appointed Timothy Kania as senior vice president of energy and construction in the U.S. and Latin America. He is based in New York.

ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operating division of the ACE Group, appointed Caroline Clouser as executive vice president of the medical risk and life sciences business. She will be based in Jersey City, N.J. Clouser previously served as executive vice president, ACE medical risk.

Preferred Concepts LLC, a program underwriter and specialty insurance broker in New York, appointed Robert Lynch as senior vice president and senior property underwriter for its Preferred underwriting division. His most recent background includes the co-founding of First Capital Group, a program management operation.

XL Group plc appointed Barbara Luck as chief underwriting officer in its North America primary casualty unit. She is based in New York. Luck comes from ACE USA where she most recently served as executive vice president and chief underwriting officer of its ACE Risk Management division.
