Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. said Alexander Moczarski, CEO of Guy Carpenter, has assumed the additional role of chairman at Marsh & McLennan Companies International. Moczarski will continue to be based in New York. Guy Carpenter is a reinsurance intermediary unit of New York City-headquartered Marsh & McLennan Companies.
Great American Insurance Group has named Shelli Hamilton, vice president at the environmental division, to lead the newly opened New York office for its environmental unit. The New York office complements the environmental division’s home office located in Plymouth Meeting, Penn. Hamilton served in a senior underwriting role with Cincinnati, Ohio-headquartered Great American since the launch of its environmental division in 2008. She has prior experience with XL Environmental as well as ECS.
TD Insurance, a subsidiary of TD Bank, has promoted Shalonta Ford to vice president and insurance regional sales specialist in personal lines in Wethersfield, Conn. She joined TD Insurance in 2010 and most recently served as an assistant vice president. Prior to joining TD Insurance, she was a store manager at TD Bank’s Cheshire, Conn., office. TD Bank, N.A., has executive offices in Portland, Me., and Cherry Hill, N.J. It is a subsidiary of The Toronto-Dominion Bank of Toronto, Canada, a top 10 financial services company in North America.
William Gallagher Associates, a Boston-based broker and risk management services provider, appointed David Bachrach as senior vice president of the employee benefits practice at its Princeton, N.J., office. In his new role, he will help expand William Gallagher’s employee benefits services in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tristate region. He began his career at MetLife before starting his own firm, Bachrach and Associates, in New Jersey. He specializes in employee benefits for mid-market organizations.
A.I.M Mutual Insurance Companies, a workers’ comp insurer in Burlington, Mass., appointed Glenn MacDonald as financial analyst. In his new role, MacDonald will be responsible for a wide range of financial issues, including forecasting, planning and expense management. Prior to joining A.I.M. Mutual, MacDonald was with the Hartford Financial Services Group for 25 years, most recently as director of financial planning, analysis and reporting. He also held positions at The Hartford as director of accounting operations and director of management and GAAP reporting. In a consulting capacity, he has provided financial support services for clients, including those in the insurance industry.
The McIntyre Group, a Cherry Hill, N.J.-based insurance brokerage, risk management and consulting firm, promoted Brian Hall to vice president. Hall joined The McIntyre Group in 2006 as a marketing executive charged with the responsibility of building the surety department. He was promoted to director for the surety department in 2011. His previous experience includes working at a large regionally based financial planning firm for six years as well as operating a certified public accounting firm in Exton, Penn., for 17 years. In addition to being a CPA, Hall holds a property/casualty insurance license in New Jersey.
Allied World Assurance Company Holdings AG said industry veteran Lou Iglesias joined Allied World U.S. as president of the property/casualty division. He will be based in New York City. His responsibility will include overseeing underwriting and servicing all program, property, environmental, inland marine, general and specialty casualty businesses. Prior to joining Allied World, he spent 18 years at AIG in varying management positions including: CEO for commercial casualty, president for the risk management group, president for the AIG environmental unit and president of the AIG construction unit.
GEICO, a Chevy Chase, Md.-headquartered auto insurance unit of Berkshire Hathaway, appointed two vice presidents in New York regional offices. John Pham has been named vice president of GEICO’s Woodbury, N.Y., regional office. Prior to his promotion, Pham served as assistant vice president in the Woodbury office. Pham joined GEICO in 1990. Additionally, Seth Ingall has been named vice president of GEICO’s Buffalo, N.Y., regional office, with responsibilities for New Jersey and the Northeast. Prior to the announcement, he served as regional vice president of GEICO’s Woodbury, N.Y., operations. Ingall joined GEICO in 1986.
Advisen Ltd., an insurance analytics and market information provider headquartered in New York, appointed Seth Rachlin and John Pagliaccio to lead the newly formed information and analytics business unit. Rachlin will be president of the information and analytics business unit and an executive vice president of Advisen. Previously, he served as the CEO of Moore Stephens Business Solutions. Pagliaccio will serve as the executive vice president in the information and analytics business unit. He was previously president of Carvill ReAdvisory, an intermediary specializing in professional liability reinsurance services. Prior to that, he was a managing director focusing on analysis of all lines of P/C at Gallagher Re, Guy Carpenter and RMS.
Ireland-headquartered XL Group plc’s North American marine business appointed Chris Cooke as vice president, hull and liabilities. He is based in New York. Cooke previously worked at Travelers, where he was the national hull and liabilities practice leader.
The Insurance Center of New England, an independent agency in Agawam, Mass., promoted William Trudeau to the position of president and CEO. Trudeau has been at the firm since 1990, serving the last six years as chief operating officer. Dean Florian, who has been serving as the firm’s president, has assumed the role of chairman of the board of directors.
Soderberg Insurance Services of Lynnfield, Mass., appointed Johanna Vasquez as account representative. In her new position at the agency, Vasquez will provide servicing primarily of the agency’s personal lines clients for their home, auto and personal umbrella policies. She will also work extensively with the firm’s Spanish-speaking clients.
Boston-based catastrophe risk modeling firm AIR Worldwide appointed John Elbl as vice president in its business development group. He comes from Zurich Insurance Company where he most recently served as global head of catastrophe modeling. He worked at Zurich for past 13 years. At AIR Worldwide, Elbl’s responsibilities include assisting with service and support for commercial insurer clients, and developing AIR software and models.
Work At Home Vintage Employees LLC (WAHVE), a New York City-based company that provides domestic remote staffing services for insurance firms, appointed Frank Sentner as chief operating officer. Previously, Sentner was director of strategic technology at the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB) and vice president of business development at the Insurance Exchange Trust, an initiative of the CIAB. Sentner has been developing technology solutions for the agent/broker distribution channel of the insurance industry for over 30 years. WAHVE employs skilled insurance retirees located in the U.S. who understand the industry’s technology, culture and language.
Willis North America, a New York-headquartered division of global insurance broker Willis Group Holdings, appointed Michael Sullivan as account executive for Willis of Northern New England. He is based in Portland, Maine. Sullivan will be responsible for driving growth across the region and aligning resources to deliver Willis’ global capabilities to local clients. Sullivan, who relocated from Los Angeles in 2009, will also work with select clients in California. Prior to joining Willis, Sullivan served as account executive at O’Hearn Insurance Agency in Portland, Maine. He has also held leadership roles at mortgage banking agencies, Marcus & Millichap Capital Corporation and George Smith Partners.
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, a New York-headquartered law firm, said it hired six attorneys specializing in insurance regulatory, tax and transactions. They are: James Dwyer, Jeffrey Mace, John Pruitt, Linda Sciuto, Cynthia Shoss and P. Bruce Wright. All six attorneys are joining Sutherland’s New York office as partners. All six were previously partners at law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf. A number of partners have been leaving Dewey & LeBoeuf this year because of compensation conflicts and the firm’s financial results, according to media reports. The firm has lost close to 40 of its 300 partners since the beginning of the year. Insurance has traditionally been a strong area of practice for Dewey & LeBoeuf. But more than a dozen partners from the insurance practice group have left the firm so far this year.
