American International Group Inc. (AIG) named Edward M. Liddy as chairman and CEO. He succeeds Robert B. Willumstad.
Stephen F. Bollenbach, who was named lead independent director in June 2008, continues in that role.
Liddy joined the private equity firm of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Inc. this year after serving as chairman of The Allstate Corp. since January 2007. Prior to that, he was Allstate chairman and CEO from 1999 until 2006 and president and chief operating officer from 1994 until 1998. He led the initial public offering and 1995 spin-off of Allstate from Sears, Roebuck and Co.
At Sears, Liddy served as senior vice president and chief financial officer and as senior vice president-operating. Prior to that, Liddy was chief financial officer of G. D. Searle & Co.
The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. announced new appointments for three of its senior executives. Dan Brown will take on the new role of senior vice president of Industry Markets; Juan Andrade will become executive vice president of sales and distribution; and Andy Pinkes will assume the position of executive vice president of claims.
Brown, who until now served as The Hartford’s head of sales and distribution, will lead a newly created business group called Industry Markets, which focuses on industries that offer opportunities for growth across the company’s business insurance segments. Brown joined The Hartford in 1989 and has served in a number of business segment and field leadership posts at the company.
Succeeding Brown as head of sales and distribution will be Andrade, who until now served as head of The Hartford’s claims organization. In his new role, Andrade will work to support 10,000 independent agents and brokers who distribute the company’s portfolio of personal and business insurance products. Prior to The Hartford, Andrade held a range of roles as a profit center manager, accountable for sales and distribution, product, pricing and claims for 15 years at AIG and Progressive.
Pinkes will succeed Andrade as head of The Hartford’s claims organization and will continue his stewardship of the company’s P&C run-off operations, a role he took on in 2005 after joining The Hartford in 2003. As COO and then president of The Hartford’s run-off operations, Pinkes and his team have helped the company manage many of the company’s most challenging issues, including asbestos, silica, environmental and complex exposures.
Jean Nederloe was named marketing director for the North Zone operations of Wisconsin-based Wausau Signature Agency (WSA).
Nederloe is based in WSA’s Milwaukee office and will work in conjunction with marketing operations in WSA’s East and South zones to help to coordinate strong marketing partnerships on a national basis.
She began her insurance career with Brown & Brown Insurance in 1995 as an account manager and was promoted to department sales manager in 1998, and became an account executive in 2002.
Northbrook, Ill.-based Allstate Corp. announced that Patrick M. O’Brien will lead the combined entities of Allstate Motor Club (AMC) and Partnership Marketing Group (PMG) as president. He will also serve as assistant vice president in the Emerging Businesses group at Allstate. Allstate acquired PMG, a business unit of GE Money, in June 2008. In his new role, O’Brien will expand Allstate’s footprint in the retail and wholesale roadside assistance, legal services, and affinity products AMC, which was established in 1961, provides 24-hour roadside assistance to 1.2 million customers through a national network of service providers. An additional 1.4 million customers are served through an enhanced towing or roadside assistance benefit available to Allstate auto insurance policyholders.
The Hanover Insurance Group Inc., with offices in Columbus, named Bob Cohen as regional vice president, commercial lines, for its Ohio market, with responsibility for coordinating overall commercial lines strategies and activities.
Cohen, previously served as commercial lines manager for The Hanover’s Southeast Michigan market. He joined the company in 2005, coming from Chubb Insurance, where he served as commercial insurance practice leader in the company’s Pittsburgh office. Prior to that, Cohen served as branch underwriting manager at Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group, for the company’s Western Pennsylvania market.
The Hanover has also appointed Don Harmeling regional vice president, personal lines, for the Ohio market. Harmeling joined the company in 2007 from Safeco Insurance Co., where he served as sales and distribution manager for the company’s Ohio region.
Heffernan Insurance Brokers has appointed Greg Maciorowski as vice president in its Midwest practice group, based in Missouri.
In this role, Maciorowski will be charged with new business development for property and casualty risks, focusing on large construction risks in the Midwest.
Prior to joining Heffernan, Maciorowski handled one of the nation’s largest general contractors for Aon. Before working with Aon, he was the manager of Zurich’s construction practice in St. Louis. During his six years at Zurich, he grew the operation to become the second largest construction office located in St. Louis serving many of the premier construction firms in the area.
