Guy Carpenter & Company Inc., a global risk and reinsurance specialist and a part of the Marsh & McLennan Companies, announced that Jack Snyder has joined the company as a managing director and manager of business development for the Americas, reporting to Executive Vice President Michael Schnur. Snyder was chief marketing officer for American Re where he was responsible for a wide range of marketing activities. Previously, Snyder was chief ratings officer for the A.M. Best Company. Earlier in his career, Snyder was a securities analyst following the insurance industry for Smith Barney and also was an underwriter for General Reinsurance Corporation.

Michael P. McNamee has been named vice president of business planning and analysis for Harleysville Insurance. In this position, he is responsible for the development of the company’s annual business plan, financial modeling and forecasting of results, and monitoring the financial performance of Harleysville’s regional profit centers and corporate functional areas.

Before joining Harleysville, McNamee was vice president of financial analysis with XL Capital in Exton, Pa. He also has held finance leadership positions at CIGNA, Kemper and Reliance.

Also at Harleysville, Denise T. Flatt has been named vice president of property/casualty claims. In this position, she is responsible for directing home office technical claims functions, specialty units and personnel. She also works with the company’s regional claims leaders regarding claims handling and reserving. Flatt has been with Harleysville for five years. Most recently, she was assistant vice president of the Southeast claims service center in Nashville, Tenn. Before joining Harleysville, she held a variety of claims management positions with CNA and Safeco.

Peabody, Mass.-based insurance broker Mazonson LLC, has made multiple additions to its sales force. Anthony J. Pirri, Catherine Connell-Quindazzi and Kimberly Rose-Hubbard have joined the company’s property and casualty group and Robert Brown is the latest addition to the firm’s employee benefits group.

Pirri brings to his position as senior account executive his expertise in the global technology industry. Prior to joining Mazonson, Pirri was responsible for sales of global IT solutions with DecisionOne, Southboro, Mass.

Connell-Quindazzi has been named to the position of senior sales development executive after many years as a broker in New Hampshire. Her focus will include Massachusetts and New Hampshire based businesses with concentration in both the hospitality and contracting industry.

Kimberly Rose-Hubbard is now a senior account executive. Hubbard’s background spans the insurance, banking, business development and management fields. Most recently she worked as a national accounts manager for a New England-based insurance brokerage firm.

As part of the expansion of its employee benefits division, Brown assumes the position of business development manager. Brown previously operated his own New Hampshire-based health and life agency.

ACE USA announced two appointments in its casualty risk unit. William Hazelton joins as senior vice president and underwriting manager for ACE Environmental Risk and Mitchell Schmidt has assumed the role of senior vice president and underwriting manager for the Custom Casualty Unit.

Based in New York City, Hazelton will have overall responsibility for all retail-focused environmental business, new business development and underwriting activities in the United States. Hazelton most recently was with Quanta’s environmental liability unit. He previously held positions with Chubb Environmental Solutions and AIG Environmental.

Based in Philadelphia, Schmidt joined ACE USA in July 2003 as Midwest regional excess casualty manager. He has held numerous senior leadership roles within ACE Casualty Risk, most recently serving as Western zone manager. Previously, Schmidt was with Chubb & Son Inc.

William Gallagher Associates has elevated Michael Kearney to be executive vice president of the Boston-headquartered insurance brokerage. Kearney specializes in the life science and technology industries. He joined WGA in 1996, after working for Liberty Mutual.

Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Company, based in Richmond, Va., has appointed Michael Dinkins to the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer. Dinkins will succeed Carolyn Jones, who recently announced her intention to retire. It is expected that Dinkins will assume the position in early October. Dinkins will join HRH from Guidant Corporation, a maker of medical devices, where he was vice president global control and reengineering.

Colemont Hartford (Conn.) has promoted Mike Cassidy and Woody Baird to senior vice president positions.

Cassidy is now senior vice president for market relations. In this new role, Cassidy will be responsible for developing strong relationships with Colemont’s casualty markets, and he will also continue to market and service commercial casualty accounts. Prior to joining Colemont in 2000, he held the position of vice president of marketing at The Watson Group and has previously held underwriting positions at CNA, Home Insurance, and St. Paul.

Baird will assume the role of senior vice president for sales. In his new role, Baird will manage Colemont-Hartford’s growing team of brokers, and will also continue to be responsible for the production of commercial property and casualty accounts. Before Baird joined Colemont last year, he was the area executive vice president/branch manager at Arthur J. Gallagher & Company’s Hartford office for 16 years. He has also served as president of Gow & Hanna, Inc. of Connecticut.

Zurich North America commercial’s unit providing environmental and design professional insurance solutions has opened an office in Boston to serve customers in its New England region. Zurich’s New England region includes Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Heading the office will be Chris DeLauder, regional vice president. For the past 10 years, DeLauder has been in Zurich’s Atlanta office, where he supervised a team of underwriters primarily responsible for the environmental services business.
