REP. WATERS: HURRICANE STRESS REPLACING ‘PARTY MENTALITY’

July 3, 2006

According to Rep. Leslie Waters, R-Pinellas, “the hurricane-party mentality in Florida is gone, replaced by hurricane stress.”

“It’s important for homeowners to ‘harden’ their homes,” Waters recently told the Florida Suncoast Chapter of the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters. “If homeowners make an effort to mitigate their homes so there is less damage, they can stay at home during a hurricane and there will be less impact on insurers.”

Waters stressed it’s important for agents to keep in constant contact with their legislators and let them know their opinion on various bills.

Now in her last term, Waters said she “always enjoyed hearing from her constituents.” Although she will not run for another term as a representative, she plans to run for another government office within the next few years, perhaps for Congress.
