MAYOR SEEKS MED-MAL REFORM:
Mayor Anthony Williams has introduced legislation aimed at cutting back malpractice awards. The bill would limit some types of exorbitant awards but would not place any limit on economic damages.
It would also expand the Good Samaritan law to provide immunity to all physicians, nurses and nurse midwives who provide free care. Currently, this immunity law only applies to Ob/Gyns.
“This bill is all about ensuring that our residents and visitors always get top-notch care and that our medical community can practice without undue burdens,” Williams said.
