ETHICS COMMISSION FINES GA. INSURANCE COMMISSIONER:

January 24, 2005

The Georgia State Ethics Commission has levied a $750 fine on State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine stemming from a campaign finance report showing that he did not disclose some contributions to his state campaign finance reports in the mid-1990s. According to an Associated Press report, Oxendine had also been fined $500 by the commission for allegedly accepting illegal contributions from a donor that the Georgia Insurance Office regulates. Stefan Passanito, Oxendine’s attorney said that Oxendine never signed an agreement to pay the fee and that the case “slipped through the cracks.”
