GEORGIA PURSUES FEDERAL DAMAGE ASSESSMENT:

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue has directed the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) to pursue a federal damage assessment in the wake of Hurricane Frances, and is also expected to request a similar assessment of damage caused by hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne. GEMA made a formal request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The assessments will determine if Georgia will be eligible for federal assistance under the Public Assistance Program. “I am grateful to counties and cities across the state for quickly compiling damage estimates,” said Gov. Perdue. “Their cooperation is especially significant, given they are in the difficult position of recovering from Hurricane Frances.” Georgia received the after-effects of hurricanes Frances, Ivan and Jeanne.
