P/C SYMPOSIUM IN AUSTIN TO EXAMINE REFORM LEGISLATION
Insurance industry officials from around the country will meet July 17 in Austin to discuss insurance reform legislation passed during the 78th session of the Texas Legislature. Three hundred industry representatives plan to attend the 2003 Mid-Year Property & Casualty Insurance Symposium, sponsored by the Insurance Council of Texas and the Association of Fire and Casualty Companies of Texas (AFACT). Robert Hartwig, chief economist for the Insurance Information Institute will be the symposium’s leadoff speaker as he analyzes the Texas insurance market. Jay Thompson of Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons will review insurance reform legislation and Wayne Slater, Austin bureau chief of the Dallas Morning News, will discuss his new book, Bush’s Brain. Texas Insurance Commissioner Jose Montemayor will speak during the noon luncheon and he will also join a round table discussion with industry officials. The panel will include: Rep. Larry Taylor of Friendswood; Bruce Milligan, CEO of Republic Group of Insurance Cos.; Bo Gilbert, government affairs director for the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas; Lee Ann Alexander, legislative counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co.; and Rick Gentry, executive director of the Insurance Council of Texas.
