TEXAS FIRE DEPTS. GET GRANTS
The fire and emergency services department of West University Place and Harris County, Texas received arson grants in the amounts of $2,000 an $2,300, respectively, from commercial and industrial property insurer FM Global. FM Global said it has awarded over $36,000 in such grants to fire and emergency services departments in communities across the U.S. and Canada. The grants, which are awarded quarterly, are intended to assist agencies in their efforts to prevent arson-related fires, a leading cause of property losses. The money will be used to buy investigative tools and related equipment, as well as to fund training and fire prevention programs. Fire departments in Seminole, Okla., El Reno, Okla., and Springhill, La., also received grants of $1,350 , $1,090 and $1,550, respectively.
