LOUISIANA AGENT NABBED

Sheldon Andrus, an agent based in Kenner, La., and licensed to sell property and casualty, as well as life and health insurance, was arrested on charges of insurance fraud and criminal theft, according to acting state Insurance Commissioner J. Robert Wooley. Andrus allegedly violated the Louisiana Insurance Code by misappropriating funds taken from clients to purchase insurance. Upon his arrest, he was also ordered to cease and desist from all insurance business activities, and his insurance licenses were suspended. The joint action was a collaborative effort of the Louisiana Department of Insurance Fraud Unit, the Kenner Police Department and the New Orleans Police Department, Sixth District, Orleans Parish. Kenner had been licensed to sell life and health insurance since 1990, and property/casualty insurance since 1998.
