BROWN CALLS FOR REVIEW
Suspended Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Brown is calling for a review of the federal prosecutor’s office. In addition, Brown remains free on bond while he appeals his conviction. He was supposed to report to federal prison to begin serving a six-month sentence.
Brown was convicted of lying to the FBI about his role in a settlement involving the liquidation of the failed Cascade Insurance Co. Brown maintains he was unfairly prosecuted.
“I hope there’s going to be a serious review of what happened down here,” Brown said to reporters. “There was no crime. How can I be convicted of lying if there was no crime?” Brown also said that the use of an anonymous jury for his trial was questionable. “These are the kinds of things you’d see in a dictatorship down in South America.”
