New Business Owners Policy

Nuts & Bolts: Victor O. Schinnerer & Co. has a business owners policy (BOP) with broader limits and coverage in its DesignOne program. Policy changes include: off premises coverage may equal insureds’ business personal property limit; a blanket additional endorsement includes a waiver of subrogation at no additional charge; limits of $300,000 for fire legal liability; limits of $25,000 for employee dishonesty; and limits of $50,000 for computers. The DesignOne program also offers professional, pollution, employment practices and other business insurance to architects, engineers, landscape architects, surveyors and specialty construction consultants.

Dollars: Property limit is $9 million; liability is $1 million to $2 million.

Carrier: CNA, rated “A-” by A.M. Best. Admitted.

States: All.

New Construction, Remodelers, Owner/Developers

Nuts & Bolts: Network E&S Insurance Brokers has a Builder’s Risk/Contractors Equipment Program for residential and commercial structures with no size limitations. Frame and concrete structures are acceptable. No new ventures; two years in business required. No tracts or condo projects.

Dollars: Limits up to $5 million (additional limits available). Minimum deductible of $1,000, but higher deductibles may be available. Minimum premium is $5,000.

Carrier: Rated “A” XV by A.M. Best. Non-admitted.

States: All, except Florida.

Employed Lawyers Protection

Nuts & Bolts: Philadelphia Insurance Cos. has Employed Lawyers Protection Plus for attorneys working as in-house counsel, their support staff and eligible independent contractors, including moonlighting and pro bono services. Protection is provided to the in-house attorney including in matters where indemnification by the employer is not permitted or withheld. Malpractice claims against the in-house attorney are covered. Acceptable classes include most types of privately held and nonprofit organizations, and publicly traded companies with less than $1 billion in market capitalization.

Dollars: Up to $10 million available.

Carrier: Philadelphia Insurance Companies, rated “A+” by A. M. Best. Admitted.

States: All except Louisiana. Available on admitted paper in 45 states.

Primary Products and General Liability

Nuts & Bolts: Axiom Speciality has a product for small- to medium-sized accounts targeting several manufacturing/importing/ distributing classes, i.e. alarm manufacturing, auto part manufacturing (non-operating), commercial general contractors, commercial roofers, playground manufacturing, medical equipment manufacturing, and computing manufacturing. Dollars: $1 million/$2 million/$2 million. Minimum premium is $7,500. Minimum deductible is $2,500 per claim.
