Tenant Discrimination Liability

Nuts & Bolts: NAS Insurance Services is introducing a new program whereby property owner/manager insureds can add tenant discrimination liability insurance to their property insurance for $500 additional premium. With the addition of tenant discrimination coverage, property insureds are covered from allegations and suits from current, prospective and former tenants, and any other non-employee alleging discrimination (including violations of ADA), harassment, and/or wrongful eviction. The insurance also features full prior acts and punitive damage coverage (where insurable by law).

Dollars: The limit is $1 million per claim and on aggregate. The SIR is $2,500. Additional premium is $500.

Carrier: Lloyd’s rated “A,” nonadmitted

Enhanced Orthotic/Prosthetic Program

Nuts & Bolts: The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. has introduced a new supplemental property insurance coverage endorsement (SPICE), The Hartford’s premier orthotic and prosthetic program, for practitioners, manufacturers and distributors of custom-fit orthotic and prosthetic devices. The endorsement complements already existing general liability, professional liability, worker’s compensation and auto and umbrella coverages. The Hartford’s Orthotics and Prosthetics program features the company’s broad Property Choice insurance protection, which includes coverage for equipment breakdown and Internet-related exposures, general liability coverage for product claims and professional liability coverage for negligence in designing or providing an orthotic or prosthetic device. In addition, the new O&P SPICE provides up to $200,000 for lost business income, a feature offered to policy-holders at a significant cost savings. Other important coverage includes up to $100,000 for business property losses, whether they occur in transit or at another location, and up to $25,000 for loss or damage to valuable papers or a laptop computer.

Dollars: There are no minimum premiums. It has a wide range of deductibles starting at $1,000, and limits vary.

States Available: All 48 contiguous.

Employee Identity Theft and Discrimination Allegations

Nuts & Bolts: NAS Insurance Services’ EPLI program now covers employers for allegations of improper disclosure of confidential information resulting in identity theft. In addition, coverage for employers from allegations of genetic make-up discrimination is also included. NAS Insurance Services is an underwriting manager and Lloyds correspondent located in Encino, Calif.

Dollars: The minimum premium is $1,728. Deductibles are $5,000 and limits range from $100,000 to $2 million.

Carrier: Lloyd’s of London rated “A” by A.M. Best, nonadmitted.

States Available: All except Alaska, Alabama, Kentucky and Illinois.
