The number lawsuits alleging malpractice by a former West Virginia physician that Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corp. of America and a former subsidiary have agreed to settle. Dr. John A. King is a defendant in 124 medical malpractice lawsuits in West Virginia and two in Alabama. Each of the West Virginia lawsuits alleges the 49-year-old osteopath botched surgeries or otherwise harmed patients during his six months at the former Putnam General Hospital.

According to Lyon Circuit Court records, Tanya K. Moodie was named attorney-in-fact for Clara Ingram, a Kentucky Department of Corrections employee who received permanent partial disability benefits due to an injury covered under workers’ compensation. After Ingram’s death in 2000, Moodie collected and cashed Ingram’s benefit checks until August 2004, according to KOI officials.
