Former North Carolina Agent under Investigation for Embezzlement
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long announced that Gevedon Insurance Agency, of Columbus, is currently under criminal investigation for numerous charges of alleged embezzlement. Polk County Sheriff’s Department and Columbus Police Department are working with the North Carolina Department of Insurance Investigations Division.
The case stems from an ongoing investigation by the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) into allegations that the agency failed to remit premium payments meant to purchase insurance for clients.
James David Gevedon, who surrendered his agent license in March, previously operated Gevedon Insurance Agency at 240 East Mills Street, Columbus, N.C. and prior to that was employed by Carolina Insurance Services in Forest City, N.C.
An estimated 1,000 people may be currently without homeowners or auto insurance.
