Folsom, Calif. Man Submits False Receipts

September 30, 2002

Gary Scott Bishop, 35, of Folsom, Calif., was arrested on two felony counts of insurance fraud and booked into the Sacramento County Jail.

In Aug. 2001, Bishop allegedly claimed his residence garage was burglarized. Bishop filed a homeowners claim with State Farm Insurance Company and reportedly submitted fraudulent receipts totaling over $8,000 for golf clubs, a bicycle, snow skis, and scuba gear in order to receive compensation he was not entitled to.

The investigation revealed Bishop allegedly fabricated the receipts, filed a false police report, and was only missing a $500 bicycle. Bishop admitted to filing the false claim due to financial pressures.

The potential loss to State Farm as a result of this fraudulent claim was $8,661.76.
