Son’s double whammy lands father in jail
Jesus Mendoza Sr., of Lamont was convicted of automobile insurance fraud and sentenced to 10 days in Kern County Jail with a $200 fine and restitution following an investigation conducted by the California Department of Insurance (CDI) and the State Farm Special Investigation Unit.
Mendoza claimed to State Farm Insurance that he was involved in two separate collisions on the same day while driving his 2001 Acura in Los Angeles in February 2001.
When Mendoza was unable to provide detailed information concerning the traffic collisions, investigators learned that it was Mendoza’s son who was the operator of the vehicle at the time of the accidents.
The son was excluded as a driver on the Acura’s insurance policy. A passenger who was in the vehicle at the time of both accidents confirmed the information.
Mendoza turned himself in and pled guilty to one count of insurance fraud in front of the Kern County Superior Court.
