Still Feeling the Burn
Darlene Nancy Berdeaux, 41, of Ventura, was arrested last month in connection with claims she filed after burning her hand while working as a waitress four years ago, the Los Angeles Times reported. The Ventura County District Attorney’s office filed workers’ comp fraud charges against Berdeaux.
During treatment for the injury, Berdeaux received an injection of medicine that she claimed caused her ongoing pain for more than two years. As a result of these claims, Berdeaux collected an undetermined amount of disability benefits, according to the L.A. Times.
An investigation revealed that Berdeaux was able to play softball-contradicting her claims of alleged pain. In addition to being charged with insurance fraud, she is also being charged with perjury for allegedly misrepresenting her physical activities during a deposition.
