Working Hard, Hardly Working
William Elmer Carson of Fresno was recently arrested on insurance fraud charges.
CDI fraud investigators discovered that the 54-year-old man had exaggerated his medical condition to his treating physician and misrepresented his ability to work and receive income to his State Compensation Insurance Fund (SCIF) claims adjuster.
Through video surveillance, investigators learned that Carson was performing a variety of activities that contradicted his workers’ comp claim. During the investigation, the claims adjuster made specific inquiries regarding Carson’s ability to perform his work as a roofer. Carson falsely represented his condition and falsely reported his work status to the claims adjuster.
As a result of Carson’s fraudulent activities, SCIF paid out more than $21,000 in workers’ comp benefits.
