Climbing the Ladder of Un-Success

Charges were filed against Vagan Kazaryan of Sacramento stemming from a 1998 workers’ comp claim.

On Oct. 12, 1998, while the 33-year-old man worked as a carpenter for Erickson Carpentry Construction, he allegedly fell from a ladder and injured his back. During the course of his treatment, Kazaryan told his doctors that he was unable to perform the normal activities required of a carpenter.

CDI fraud investigators learned that Kazaryan was witnessed climbing a ladder, carrying lumber, nailing, hammering, squatting, kneeling, standing and bending. During a Feb. 18, 1999, deposition he committed an act of perjury when he denied having done any of these activities.

As a result of his fraudulent activities, Kemper Insurance Company paid out $9,865 in workers’ comp benefits.
